Lascar Volcano

Overview
Lascar is the most active volcano in the Atacama region, and one of the few where you can hike close enough to see into the crater. The route climbs from a high trailhead across loose volcanic rock, past sulphur vents and fumaroles that remind you the mountain is alive. The summit sits at around 5,592 metres. The trek is demanding: the altitude, the terrain, and the exposure all require good fitness and proper acclimatisation. But the views from the upper slopes are extraordinary: the crater steaming below, the altiplano stretching behind, and the Andes running in both directions. Your guide has experience on this mountain and will turn back if conditions require it.
