Itinerary
Departure
Pickup in San Pedro and the climb south into the Andes, gaining nearly two kilometres of altitude along the way. The landscape shifts dramatically with every hundred metres.
Los Flamencos National Reserve
Entering the reserve, with the volcanoes Miscanti and Miñiques rising ahead of you. The air is noticeably thinner here.
Laguna Miscanti
The larger of the two lagoons. A walk along the shoreline, watching for vicuñas on the slopes and flamingos at the water's edge. The colour of the water changes with the angle of the light.
Laguna Miñiques
Smaller, tucked between rock walls, and usually completely still. This is where many people feel the quiet most deeply.
Return
Back down toward San Pedro, with stops wherever the view earns them. The descent is gentler on the body and just as beautiful.
