🗺️ Detailed Itinerary
Pre-dawn departure
Pickup from San Pedro in complete darkness. The drive climbs steadily to 4,300 metres. Dress for well below freezing: this is one of the coldest moments you will experience.
Sunrise at the geyser field
You arrive while the steam columns are at their strongest, before the sun warms the air. Stay on the marked boardwalks. The crust is thin and the water beneath it is boiling.
Walking the field
Time to move slowly among the fumaroles and mud pools as the light comes up and the steam gradually thins out. The sounds and smells here are unlike anything else.
Breakfast
A hot meal on site. Eating in the cold, surrounded by geothermal activity, is part of the experience.
The way back
A slower descent through the high valleys, with stops for vicuñas and wetland birds. The landscape transforms as you drop in altitude.
